Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 11, 2026
The short version
- Remark turns the voice notes you record into transcripts, day summaries, mood scores, badges, insights and monthly reports.
- To do that, your recordings and their text are sent to Google's Gemini API for transcription and analysis.
- Your data is stored on our server in Frankfurt, Germany (EU).
- No ads, no analytics or tracking tools, and we never sell your data. We don't use your data to train our own AI models.
- You can delete your account and everything in it at any time in the app: Settings → Delete account. It's immediate and permanent.
1. Who we are
Remark is an AI-powered voice journaling app. It is operated by Alternator Studio LLC, a Wyoming (USA) limited liability company, which is the controller of your personal data:

In this policy, "we", "us" and "our" mean Alternator Studio LLC, and "you" means anyone who uses Remark.
2. Data we collect
We only collect what Remark needs to work.
Account data
- Your email address and name. Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication by Google, using either email and password or Google sign-in. We never see or store your password; Firebase handles it.
Your journal
- Voice recordings (the audio files you record) and their transcripts.
- AI-derived data created from your recordings: day summaries, mood scores and tags, badges earned, goals, setbacks and quotes extracted from what you said, insights and monthly reports.
- Things you create and set: your own badges (the habits you track) and your app settings.
Technical and subscription data
- Your timezone offset, which the app sends with its requests so your days, summaries and reports line up with your local time.
- Your subscription status (Free or Remark Plus) and related purchase records.
Your recordings may contain anything you choose to talk about, including sensitive topics such as your health or feelings. You decide what to record. Please avoid recording other people's personal details without their permission.
What we don't collect
- No advertising identifiers, and no ads.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No payment card details. Payments are handled entirely by Google Play.
3. How we use your data
- To run Remark: create and secure your account, store your recordings, transcribe and analyze them, and show you your summaries, mood, badges, insights and monthly reports.
- To manage your subscription: know whether you're on the Free plan or Remark Plus and apply the right features and limits.
- To support you: answer your messages and handle your requests, including data requests.
- To keep the service safe and working: prevent abuse and fix problems.
We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or use it to train our own AI models.
4. Legal bases
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we rely on these legal bases:

Withdrawing consent doesn't affect processing that happened before you withdrew it.
5. How AI processing works
When you submit a voice note, our server sends the audio and its text to the Google Gemini API. Google processes it to transcribe the recording and to analyze it into summaries, mood, badges, insights and reports, and returns the results to our server, where they are stored with your account.
AI output is generated automatically and can be inaccurate. It is meant for self-reflection only, and nothing in Remark is a medical or psychological assessment. See our Terms of Service.
6. Service providers
We share data only with the providers we need to run Remark, and only what they need:

We may also disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others. If Remark or Alternator Studio LLC is ever sold or merged, your data may transfer to the new owner, who must continue to protect it as this policy describes.
7. International transfers
Your data is stored on our server in the EU (Frankfurt, Germany). Alternator Studio LLC is a US company, and Google and RevenueCat process data in the United States. This means your data may be accessed from or transferred to the US.
Where data leaves the EEA, UK or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, or the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
8. Retention and deletion
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, it's gone.
- In the app: Settings → Delete account. Deletion is immediate and permanent. It removes your account, all your recordings and audio files, transcripts, summaries, badges, reports, and your RevenueCat record.
- Without the app: email support@alternator.cc from your account's email address. We'll delete everything within 30 days.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Remark Plus subscription. Cancel it in Google Play. Full details are on the Delete your account page.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, and in any case if you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you and get a copy of it.
- Correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Delete your data. You can do this yourself at any time in the app.
- Portability: receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Object to or ask us to restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
- Complain to a data protection supervisory authority, for example the one in the country where you live or work.
To use any of these rights, email support@alternator.cc from your account's email address. We may need to confirm it's really you. We'll respond within one month, and we don't charge for this.
10. Security
We protect your data with measures appropriate to its sensitivity, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) between the app and our server, authenticated access so only you can reach your journal, restricted access to our server and database, and keeping our systems up to date.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
11. Children
Remark is for people aged 16 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a child under 16 has given us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Remark evolves or the law changes. We'll update the effective date at the top, and if a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect.
